Two American vernacular canes: 1) Black-painted fruitwood crook handle carved as a snarling dog's head, fitted with a rough sword blade, the scabbard shaft with a brass collar, 35 5/8" H.; 2) Knob handle carved as a bulldog's head with glass eyes and traces of paint, fitted with a brass collar, of a piece with thin knobby shaft, 34 1/4" H.
