Publisher: Druck und Verlag von Gustave Georg Lange Printing Year: 1842 Condition/Details: Bound in its original marbled boards and half-leather binding, this rare title is a historic-typographical description of the German state of Baden and its main sites of interest, such as its cities, spas, churches, castles and other exceptional monuments. The Baden region was celebrated during the 1800's as a destination for European aristocracy who sought the healing resources of the natural spas and resorts. The book contains 89 steel engravings by Joh. Poppel of work by various artists depicting such places and attractions. The volume shows some external wear with separation between the textblock and front board at the inside hinge. Several of the plates are detached and the last page of text is lacking. There are some period inscriptions on the prelims and scattered foxing throughout. The book measures approximately 6.25" x 9" and contains 302 textual pages followed by the plates section.
