$50    First Liberty Loan Converted Gold Bond of

As interest rates increased during World War I, subscribers of the first issue of 1917 Liberty Loan Bonds were allowed to convert their 3-1/2% or 4% bonds without charge into the later issued 4-1/4% Long Bonds of 1918. This bond features Thomas Jefferson, along with a beautiful blue Freedom Torch on the front and 37 coupons attached on the side and bottom of the bond. The back, in cocoa-brown ink, portrays three Doughboys charging up a hill ready to do battle with the Kaiser's men, bayonets drawn and Old Glory proudly waving. This bond has been featured in The Numismatist, as well as Bank Note Reporter. Strongly embossed and with a red Treasury seal. Facsimile signatures of Teehee and McAdoo. Pinholes are noted for accuracy. Graded EF by Pass-Co.
