Title: "Abraham and Isaac" etching printed on laid paper, 1645, signed lower left in the plate as customary,, , A second state impression with the gap in the arch top, but before the impressions with a black spot to the left of the Abraham's head. Fine lines very distinct.,
Size info: ,sheet: () 8 7/8 x 8 3/4 in ,plate size: () 6 1/8 x 5 in,
Condition: In very fine condition, with exceptionally large margins.
Framing: Sold framed,
Literature: Recorded and illustrated in the standard text on the original graphics of the artist by Bartsch, No 34, Hind 214, Borklund 45-D.
Note: This work is unusual in that it is on large margins, rarely seen. The paper is a paper seen with the finer Basan or slightly earlier impressions of many prints... a good, but not the best, laid paper with evenly spaced line, with a slightly oatmeal like surface. The plate edges are slightly irregular. The vertical measurements are 155 mm on the left side and 156 mm on the right side. The horizontal measurement is 130 mm at the top, 128 at the bottom and 126 mm lower center. These measurements are indentation to indention. There is a lot of burr on the signature and the lower left corner, on Isaac's coat and arm, and in the dark area above his head and lower right corner. There are some areas of wear in the dense crosshatching, lower left corner, to the left of Abraham's coat and on Abraham's coat. Overall this is a very clean impression with most lines printing sharply and thinly. This is clearly a second state impression as the gap at the top of the plate described as being evident after the plate had been cut down is very distinctive. There is no evidence of any watermark or portion of a watermark.,
