Painted Silhouette, Signed Frith, British, signed Frith and dated 1843. A Victorian silhouette of a gentleman standing holding top hat, heightened in gold. In bird's-eye maple frame with gold liner; 6" x 8.75".

John Frith (b. 1810-15) painted portrait miniatures in color, and sons F. and Henry Albert worked in both painted miniatures and in painted silhouette profiles at the family's Royal Victoria Gallery, 122 George's Street, Limerick, 1837-54. This is probably the work of son H.A. Frith, though it is not possible to determine the individual work of family member or staff who worked closely in the same style. See McKechenie 1978: 720.
