Mid-Atlantic 19th-Century Cigar Store Indian, Baltimore-Wilmington area, ca 1850-80. The figure of painted pine holds tobacco leaves in one hand and further down to his back side sits a bundle of cigars on a block, on the opposite side the other hand rests on a block; 5.5" base height, 34" overall height.

This is an Indian figure having the same stance, dress, shoes, thick base and other details as the carver described in Fried 1970: 20 and 21, fig. 13.

Loss of area above the headband but has old paint; a hole in the top that lines up with the age split; also retains an old paint history overall.
