Autograph Letter Signed, "W.T. Presley" 1st Alabama Cavalry, 3p. quarto, pencil, Camp brown, Chicasaw County, Mississippi, July 30, 1862, with integral leaf addressed to family in Alabama, it reads in part: "...the regt is all gone off that have horses. They had orders to go to Chattanooga and all that had horses to cook up three days rations...last night they got orders to go to Verona on the Rail Road to keep the Yankees from taking the place it is reported in camp that there is about 40 forty thousand Yankees near Verona if this is the casse they are in the rear of our army, and if they are in the rear of our army with not more than forty thousand men they are in a bad condition for I am pretty certain we can bag that number without much trouble....I don’t think the Yankees are grown enough to come in the rear of our Army as far from there Proctetor as that wuld be, I mean there gun boat. There is only 14 of our company at camp and we are the foot crowd..." VG.
