Watts" 1st Georgia Cavalry, 1-1/4p. quarto, pencil, Knoxville, Tennessee, June 22, 1863, and reads in part: "...we heard of this raid to Knoxville & started out double quick. The Yankees when first heard of were 55 ms. ahead 14 hours before the news came - a portion of Pegrams Comd. is still in pursuit with others but it is thought that most of the Yankees will escape. They burned a factory below Knoxville & plundered the citizens of their horses & negroes. They did not go to Lowden & did the Rail Road very little injury until they got above Knoxville. Above they are destroying all the bridges of any importance...My company on friday night was to act as courier from Watbury on the mountain to Clinton a distance of 35 ms & to wait till all our forces got over, so I am behind the Regt..."
