Significant Manuscript guard report, entitled "S. Alexadner Captain Comp. H Report of a Guard mounted at Fort Brown on 12th day of April and relieved on the 13 day of April 1863...Report of Guard mounted at Fort Brown on the 13 day of April and relieved on the 14th day of April 1863." 10p. large folio, though covers the morning reports for August, September, and October of 1862, recording the totals by rank of those present and absent, with list of the names of all those who were sick or absent with and without leave. VG. In 1861 Confederate Col. John "Rip" Ford occupied Fort Brown until 1863 when they were finally driven out by Union forces under General Nathaniel P. Banks, who then camped in tents erected at the fort site. This ended in 1864 when Confederate forces under General J. S. Slaughter and Colonel Ford reoccupied the area. They would hold the post until the end of the war.
