Manuscript Document Signed, 3p. folio, Warren County, Virginia, February 15, 1864, and reads in part: "...As many of the acting Justices of this county having been summoned as was practicable in consequence of the apprehension of the public enemy, to consider the subject of appointing a General Agent and Store Keeper for the County pursuant to the provisions of the General Assembly entitled ; An Act to provide for the appointment of General Agent and Store Keepers for Counties & Corporations passed October 27, 1863.’...On Motion the Court unanimously accepted the provisions of the said Act, and adopted the following orders which are directed to be entered on record. First, That Thomas R. Ashby who is not liable to military duty, be and he is hereby unanimously appointed General Agent and Store Keeper for this County, to carry into effect the provisions of the said Act; but he is not to enter upon the discharge of his duties as said Agent & storekeeper, until he shall have taken the oath required by said Act, and enter into a bond in the penalty, of Thirty Thousand dolalrs ($30,000) with securities to be approved by the Court...Fourth- That Colonel Edwd. B. Jacob be and he is hereby appointed by the court a sub agent to assist the General Agent in the sale and distribution of the articles purchased and if necessary to and in making purchases..." VG.
