Nothing of importance occured up to the 27th when I got orderes to move to Jones farm near the Plank road, next day, 28th at 5 A.M. I was ordered to cross the James River. I started immediately crossing the Appomattox River at Petersburg and halted that night within 6 miles of Chaffins Bluff.
