Pair of Autograph Letter Signed by Daniel A. Handy enlisted as a private into Co. 'F' 2nd Rhode Island Infantry, on June 6, 1861. He was severely wounded on May 6, 1864, serving the remainder of his military career in the hospital recovering from his wounds, he was discharged on July 8, 1865. Includes ALS, 4p. octavo, Camp Sedgwick, Virginia, February 6, 1864, and reads in part: "...Now darling by this frail map of things you will get some ideas of things as I tell this. It seems the rebels have crossed the rive at the fords at the left of our lines, whether in earnest or not we have not found out but it is believed that Lee is going to try to take our care of supplies to feed his suffering army, if so he will have some terrible fighting to do for the boys are not going to leave their good quarters for no rebels..." with map and 2nd letter. VG.
