Wychoff" 161st New York Infantry, includes: ALS, 4p. octavo, Baton Rouge, December 27, 1862, and reads in part: "...I feel truly to praise God for his goodness to me that he has spared my life through seen & unseen danger till now...the New York Herald reports that we are in North Carolina & up the Roanoke River & expecting a hard fight every day & if you have any such reports just tell them that they dont know anything about Banks expedition.
