KING, Rufus (1814-1876) Union General. Organized the "Iron Brigade" and later appointed to Fitz John Porter’s court-martial. Autograph Letter Signed in text "Gen. King" 1p. oblong octavo, pencil, Opposite Fredericksburg, May 1 1862. Gen. King will cheerfully forward the reply to the accompanying letter, if sent under cover to his address , at this place." VG...plus; Autograph Letter Signed, "T.B. Barton" 2-1/2p. quarto, April 30, 1862, and reads in part: "...I shall try to send theis as we have before had communication via Fortress Monroe & a flag of Truce...This is sent by the courtesy of Brigadier Genl. Rufus King & a letter to his care will probably be received by us & we are anxious to hear of you & the dear children & if you would enclose a few postage stamps it might facilitate our correspondence..."
