Autograph Letter Signed, "Moses J. Hubbard" 3p. octavo, Middleton, Connecticut, August 3, 1862, and reads in part: "...I take the liberty of posting you on affairs at home, which as far as the cartridge shop is concerned is not very prosperous. We are all up high and dry for the want of orders, and no one to work for the past 2 weeks...The Savage Arms Co. are sure of a contract and I expect to go to woork for them in a few days, but shall quit if we get orders for cartridges and come badck to the powder and ball...The war fever runs high but no one wants to go, those who make the most noise help it the least The town has past a resolution giving $100 to each one of a 125 who enlist up to the 25 of August in addition to the rest of their pay, this together iwth the bridge will make quite a nice little tax..."
