Broadside circular, 1p. octavo, State of Indiana, Adjutant General’s Office, Indianapolis, September 18, 1862, and reads "Large numbers of the Public Arms heretofore distributed to the serveral Counties of the State have been diverted from their proper use, and are not in their present condition, available for the States defence. Therefore, the County Auditors of the several Counties are hereby ordered to hunt up, seize and collect together, all public arms of every description, not in the hands of companies organized under the Militia Law of the State, approved May 11, 1861, and report their number, kind and condition to this office at the earliest possible period. A large number of Cavalry Pistols, Revolvers and Sabres have been furnished to Militia Officers and Cavalry Companies in the State, and to these they will give special attention. They will report the kind and number of arms and accoutrements and amount of amunition (if any) in the posession of OCmpanies organized with their respective Counties..." VG.
