WRIGHT, Horatio (1820-1899) was an engineer and general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. After the war, he was involved in a number of engineering projects, including the Brooklyn Bridge and the completion of the Washington Monument, and served as Chief of Engineers for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Autograph Letter Signed, "H.G. Wright Brig. Genl. Comdg 3d Brigade" 1p. quarto, Head Qrs. Hilton Head, S. Ca., January 30, 1862, addressed to Capt. H.A. Hascall, QrM. U.S. Army, Hilton Head, South Carolina, and reads "I have to request that you send to Captain H.P. Goodrich, Brigade Qr Master at Wassaw Sount Geo. forage for 33 horses for 15 days. Capt. Saxton Chief Qr Master has been requested to provide the necessary transportation; and as the QrM of my Brigade is absent, I take the liberty of asking you to see Capt. Saxton and arrange with him in regard to the time & place of shipment. It is of importance that the forage be supplied as soon as the transportation can be provided..." VG.
