Autograph Letter Signed, "William Pollock" 4p. octavo, on "Head Quarters 50th Engineers" letterhseet, with matching cover, September 18, 1863, it reads in part: "...we hada bout 800 [in the regiment] & in the first & last ball e got 400 more & we have at the present about 800 & 50 there has been a good many killed & sick....I have seen brigades that have only 80 men in. The old Irish Brigade ehen it comes before the Battle of Gettysburg had only 70 that is three regts put together, they was cut up very bad at Chancellorsville & Fredericksburg & Malvern Hill & Bull Run...some of them had all their officers killed..." VG.
