Official copy of General Orders No. 3, 2p. quarto, Head Quarters 3d Division, 3d A.C., October 7, 1863, and reads in part: "...A General Court Martial is hereby appointed to meet in the camp of this Division on the 8th day of Oct. 1863, at 10 oclock AM or as soon thereafter as practicable, for the trial of Private Theodore Russell Co. ‘D’ 67th Regiment Penna. Volunteer Infantry and such other prisoners as may be brought before it..." and list nine soldiers with one underlined "Major Otho H. Birkley 110th Ohio Vol. Infantry". On verso is a pencil letter by Major Birkley to his sister, dated October 16, 1863, forwarding to his family the document. VG.
