Autograph Letter Signed, "O.D. Grave" 4p. octavo, Vineland, Cumberland County, New Jersey, March 16, 1863, with cover addressed to Van Buren Chapman of Connecticut, and reads in part: "...I would like to hear from you once more while I am living in order to know whether you are still Van of Old or whether you have bowed the knee to King Abraham or are still a free & independent citizen of what was once the United States of America...If I ever felt the spirit of Democracy in my soul it is in these latter days of Niggerism I thank God daily that I livein a state where Democracy is prevelant...You must elect Tom Seymour if possible. The fight will be severe but stand to the rack & do not permit yourself to be...brow beat...Tell Old Gent. I am the same old Hard Shell Democrat as ever only a little more so I think not a bit of Nigger about me..." VG.
