STONE, Charles Pomeroy (1824-1887) Union general who was charged with the debacle at Ball’s Bluff and was arrested and imprisoned without ever being charged by the Radicals in Congress who found him unfit on the question of slavery. Autograph Document Signed, "C.P. Stone Col. 14th Inf. Comd." 1p. oblong octavo, June 6, 3 oclock AM, and reads "Col. Coke, Camp 25th Penna. Sir. The orders given you last night verbally are countermanded. Your regiment will be ready to march immediately. Let the men get an early breakfast and report in person for orders at daybreak..." VG.
