He Led the 5th Wisconsin at Gettysburg

Portion of a Document Signed, "T.S. Allen Col. 5th Wisconsin Vols, 1p. oblong octavo, December 17, 1863, stating that he received $189.68 for ‘private servants’, from Paymaster Silas B.A. Haynes. Near Fine. Thomas Scott Allen (1825-1905) enlisted on April 26, 1861, and was commissioned captain of Company ‘I’ 2nd Wisconsin Infantry, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel before being commissioned as colonel of the 5th Wisconsin Infantry on December 25, 1862. He led this regiment on the battlefield of Gettysburg and was brevetted brigadier general on March 13, 1865, for meritorious services during the war.
