Autograph Letter Signed, Isaac C. Richardson, 10th New Hampshire Infantry, 4p. folio, September 3, 1864, Base Hospital, 18th Corps near City Point, Virginia, in part: "... I think there was something of a fight in front last night by the amount of firing but don't know, there is but very little prospect of any fight where our corps is now. Yesterday we got the glorious news from Atlanta if it is true and it is said to be official, it is that Atlanta has surrendered unconditionally, now can you see any signs of this war coming to an end, if this news be true it is one of the greatest blows that has ever been inflicted upon the Rebellion and blow after blow will be dealt until Mr. Jeff will be obliged to succumb. I am every day looking for the fall of Mobile, which will be another stunning blow to Rebeldom, so take courage we shall see the end if we have a little patience..." Fine.
