Union home front Autograph Letter Signed, "A. Whitmore" 4p. octavo, on patriotic stationery, East Hampden, January 26, 1864, on Freemasons and the war and reads in part: "...Mr. Ham Means has joined the Freemasons and a number of others have. I suppose they think that is going to save them. These war times the war seems to go on about as usual. The last call for men has been mustered in to service this month, so the Republicans are going to put the rebellion down and have the war ended in three or six months. William is in the E. Indies yet expect he will have to stay there a while longer..." VG.
