Union soldier's Autograph Letter written in ink by Corp. Amos Coar, Co. E, 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, 4p. octavo, U.S. General Hospital, York , Pennsylvania, September 23, 1864, and reads in part: "...my leg is getting well very nicely there is two holes yet one as big as a silver dollar and the other as big as a ten cent piece. It is so I can get a long without my crutches...I tried here for a furlough and the doctor told me he did not now how soon he could get me one for there is so many that has been out two years and never had a furlough...there is a squire in this city that wrote to Governor Curtain to let us come home to vote he is a good Union man. He said he got a great many home last fall to vote. We have preaching here every Sunday in this hospital, the preacher mostly preaches good sermons he talked about our president and the soldiers that has come at their country's call to sustain that good old flag that has been waving in love over our peaceful fire sides, homes. I would to God that Abraham Lincoln is elected for President again for I think this cruel rebellion will be closed to stay closed and our flag can wave in peace over the graves of our dear soldiers that has spilled their life's blood to spare it...". Also included is the original transmittal cover. VG.
