Pair of incomplete soldier’s letters, includes: Autograph Letter, 4p. octavo, Winchester, Virginia, March 24, 1865, on U.S. Christian Commission lettersheet with matching cover, it reads in part: "...I am still in Winchesster as you can see and shall probably remain here during my term of service for the Commission....Gen Hancock has a brigade or more out every day for drill or inspection, and they make a fine appearance in teh field and in their marches through the streets. I like to see them on week days but not on the Sabbath making such displays. Sabbath here is the same as other days as respects the military. It seems odd to wintness what I saw last Sabbath, viz. six or eight regiments marching through the streets AM & PM in one united line after their general review with bands of music. Perhaps if General Sheridan were here it would be otherwise, but Gen. Hancock, now commanding the Division here likes to see the soldiers on duty. He is doubtless an excellent officer and there are many other excellent officers here..." VG...plus; Autograph Letter, 4p. octavo, St. Thomas, Pennsylvania, September 28, 1864, and reads in part: "...Before Sheridan’s victory at Winchester the REbels made several demonstrations along the line of the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road and we were moved out at various times in conjunction with our brigade, 3000 strong, ......"
