Autograph Letter Signed by Lt. Lauren W. Walcott, Company D, 52nd Illinois Vols, Raleigh, North Carolina, April 24, 1865, and reads in part: "...I have written two letters...after the surrender of Johnston was first reported [and it] ws too ‘crazy’...our march from Goldsboro was...very severe. Two out of four nights we marched half the night...it rained almost all the time...I ...saw Gen. Grant, Gen. Sherman, Meade, Slocum, Logan, Blair, Mower, Schurtz, Schofield..." VG.
