Archive of 8 items pertaining to Albert M. Chase, M.D. of Meredith, New Hampshire. Born in 1839, Chase graduated from Dartmouth Medical School with the Class of 1865 and enlisted in the Union Army the day before General Lee surrendered. Chase was sent south as Acting Assistant Surgeon, 28th Massachusetts Volunteers only to be mustered out with the regiment on June 30, 1865. He landed a contract, however, with the U.S. Army in January, 1866 and went to work for the Freedman's Bureau in Raleigh, North Carolina where he died on October 11, 1866. Seven partially printed documents, each one page, octavo, April 8, 1865 through January 22, 1865, various locations. These official papers include orders to join the 28th Massachusetts, a manifest of government supplies received, the contract to work in Raleigh and two orders written on Freedman's Bureau stationery. Normal folds and light stains. Fine condition.....Plus; Order form for the Turkish Medical Co., one page, small octavo, ca. 1865, New York City. Paper loss at top, stains. Fair condition.
