Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed, "Jacob S. Matlick" 6th West Virginia Cavalry, 3p. octavo, North Branch Bridge, Near Cumberland, Maryland, September 4, 1864, and reads in part: "...I have got a first rate horse, he is only four years old in the spring but I think he will be able to carry me through, as well as any of them. Our horses are pretty good ones as a general thing though there are some of them that are not worth much. We have not got any bridles or saddles yet but we expect to get them soon. We have sent off for Henry rifles that shoot sixteen times without reloading. We will have to pay for them ourselves but Uncle Sam will pay us for them if we lose them in a fight..." VG.
