A very crisp Civil War era CDV, circa 1865, showing the interior of the House of Representatives in the United States capitol building in Washington. Easily seen are the desk sets made especially for the House in 1857 by the furniture companies of Bembe & Kimball of New York and Doe Hazelton of Boston. These desk sets were used throughout the Civil War by the members of Congress and discontinued in 1872. Today the surviving chairs and desk are highly collectible. No photographer's imprint with very light soiling, else very good.
