COLFAX, Schuyler (1823-1885) Vice President under Grant in 1868. Engraved portrait of Schuyler Colfax, "The Author of the Degree of Rebekah," on 5" x 6.375 inch card inscribed, "Very truly & fraternally yours, Schuyler Colfax." Shading around portrait from prior mounting, not affecting inscription. Colfax, a Congressman from South Bend, Indiana, was Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Lincoln and Johnson administrations and Vice President of the United States from 1869 to 1873. A large, bold signature in an unusual format for this statesman and Masonic leader.
