Sir Kyffin Williams KBE, RA (1918-2006) 'View of Snowdon,Y Garn llyn Nantlle' monochrome ink and wash drawing, signed with initials, 35cm x 53.5cm This atmospheric view of Sir Kyffin's beloved Snowdon is effective in it's simplicity. The impending storm is suggested in broad strokes of carefully contrasted tones of black and greys. Areas are left white to suggest light catching certain surfaces and to emphasise details. Sir Kyffin, born on Angelsey in 1918, is now recognised as one of the most influential Welsh artists of the 20th century. Though most of his career was spent teaching at Highgate School in London, Williams retained a passion for Wales. He was president of the Royal Cambrian Academy for many years and was made an Honorary Fellow of University College, Swansea and of the University College of Wales. He was awarded a knighthood in 2000.
