Thomas Sidney Cooper (1803-1902) 'Cattle and sheep on a grassy bank' oil on canvas, signed and dated 1860 36 cm x 46 cm T.S.Cooper was one of the leading animal painters of the nineteenth century. He started his career as a coach painter before entering the Royal Academy Schools. This was the beginning of a long association with the R.A. Cooper exhibited a total of 266 works at the Academy between 1833 and 1902 without missing a year. He specialised in depictions of cattle and sheep often repeating his successful compositions and collaborating with other artists.
