A Northern Plains Masterpiece in excellent condition, c 1880By the mid-1800s a new, more individualistic world had emerged around the Cheyenne River and other Plains Indian tribes of the Dakota Territory. Beads and cloth stimulated the blossoming colorful art form in a burgeoning ceremonial life, and inspired the makers to create spectacular and precious adornments for their beloved riding gear and hunting equipment.
