Fabulous 1870s Mexican Saddle

Sign In to see what this sold for

Stunning, museum quality Hacendado Vineyard saddle, made in late 3rd or early 4th quarter of the 19th century for a wealthy vintner in the Republic de Mexico. The exquisite saddle features an exposed rawhide tree adorned with repousse horn and cantle binding. The leather is embroidered with pitiado (cactus fiber) and very fine silver threads. Intricate leather carving in both floral and pictorial patterns include depictions of a stoutly lion and spread-winged Mexican Eagle. The elegant repousse figurals include raised-reliefs of migratory birds. The saddlebags are the crown jewel of this masterpiece, highlighted by the three-dimensional vines inspired by the romance of the grape fields of the original wealthy Patron
