85 bhp, 221 cu. in. L?head V8 engine, three?speed manual transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, semi?elliptic rear leaf springs with live axle, hydraulic four?wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 112"
Some of the most attractive and highly sought after Fords ever designed are those in the Deluxe series from the 1940 model year. With its tasteful use of just the right amount of chrome on that bull-nose front design, it has always been a favorite with rodders, customizers and those who appreciate it in pure stock form.
Ever since its first factory built wagon, Ford was the leader in the market, and the only entry with a V8 engine under the hood. Combining the talented craftsmanship that went into building these wagons with the outstanding styling of the 1940 Ford is like a marriage made in heaven. With a base price of $947, it was most expensive model in the catalog with just 8,730 were recorded as having been built.
If one word could describe this example from the Astor Collection, it would have to be 'stunning'. Given a full restoration during the mid-1990s, it is finished in the popular shade of Washington Blue, with dark brown leather seating surfaces inside. Using the same care and skill as when original produced, the woodwork deserves to be closely inspected, both on the exterior and the interior. Even the unique long-grain covering for the roof is absolutely flawless.
Among the many amenities and features of this wagon is a deluxe push-button radio, factory heater and a dash-mounted clock. Outside, you will see the authentically detailed wheels with original hubcaps and wheel trim rings. At the rear you will notice the encased spare tire mounted on the tailgate and above is a tastefully applied collision avoidance light. In AACA judging when first restored back in 1997, it was honored with top awards.
