THOREAU, Henry David. The Maine Woods. Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1864. 8vo. Original green patterned cloth, stamped in blind, spine title gilt; half morocco slipcase. Condition: internally clean and unspotted, contemporary owner's signature on endpaper, slightest of rubbing at tail of spine and lower corner, but cloth unfrayed. first edition of this naturalist classic. Also of interest to anglers, Thoreau's account of his three trips to the north-eastern wilderness includes a reference to the first great American maker of bamboo flyrods H. H.
