COFFMAN SCHOOL, ROCKINGHAM CO., VA DECORATED SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE JAR, previously unrecorded "4" within a partially serrated rectangular frame capacity stamp, tall ovoid form with high collar and two ribbed handles, brushed cobalt decoration consisting of a typical hollow-center Rockingham tulip on one side and an unusual combination of three tulips and beehive-like decorations on other side, collar with dashes and round-head flowers. Attributed to William C. Coffman or his son William R. Coffman, East Rockingham, possibly at Henry Miller's Elk Run Pottery. Third quarter 19th century. 15 1/2" h, 8" dia rim, 7" dia base.
