Georges Melies TRIP TO THE MOON 16mm Film 1902

Sign In to see what this sold for

Film Title: A Trip to the Moon ("Le Voyage dans la Lune")
Film Maker: Georges Melies
Release Year: 1902

Condition/Details: This lot features a vintage 16mm film reel of Melies' classic early science fiction film. This copy was produced by Blackhawk Films (Eastin-Phelan Corporation, Davenport, Iowa) and is in excellent condition. The film opens with a biography of Melies in English that reads as follows:
Georges Melies, a talented conjurer, was the first man to realize that film could be used to create illusions unfettered by logic or probability. He used a camera by Lumiere, he constructed his own equipment and a month later opened the first public cinema in the world at Theatre Robert Houdin, Paris. All the fantastic possibilities of the Lumiere invention were grasped by Melies, who produced nearly 4000 films between 1896 and 1914. Melies himself financed, wrote the script, designed and painted the sets, planned the tricks, directed, and appeared as the principal character in this, his most famous work and the first great international success in the history of film.
This film includes an optical soundtrack and the storyline concludes with the travelers being rescued and returning to port. The reel has been well cared-for and views flawlessly. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $8.50
