Title: Civil War-era photograph album
Condition/Details: Bound in a period album with deeply sculpted boards with metal clasps, this collection of Civil War-era portraits include many images of young soldiers and cadets in uniform and one architectural study. Numbering nineteen images in all, the collection includes both tintypes and traditional monochrome photographs mounted on cardstock with studio names and devices on the verso. The most interesting aspect of this collection's content are the images of very young boys in full military uniforms. The images also show many period weapons and fashions. The photography studios represented include E. A. Holton, Holmes, and Black & Case; most come from the Boston area. The album shows some age/wear, with some cosmetic spine loss. All of the photographs are presented in windowed album pages. The photographs are in generally good condition with minimal fading or other age indications. The tintypes have been especially well-preserved, showing high contrast images. Some of the items include pencil notations on the back. The book measures approximately 4.75" x 6", and the photographic pieces typically measure about 3"x4", reflecting a common print format of the time.
