five lines of alphabet over six-line verse, bottom center stitched "Amanda Searing Aged 12 years/Orange NJ April 28th/1848", corners possibly Berlin work, silk and wool thread on linen, 18 x 19-1/4 in. (sight); gilt painted wood frame. Fading, darkening of linen ground, light scratches to frame. Provenance: Private Collection, High Point, North Carolina. 1850 U.S. Census lists an Amanda Searing, age 12, living in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey.
