inscribed in pencil verso "Scene on the French Broad River In North Carolina", signature lower right "Boggio", oil on artist board, American, 11-1/2 x 9-5/8 in.; 19th century gilt wood and composition frame. Signature added, craquelure, retouch in sky, left edge and bottom affecting approximately 15 percent of surface; frame repainted. Provenance: Private Collection, Hickory, North Carolina. The figures in this scene are looking east, probably between Marshall and Hot Springs, Madison County, North Carolina, at a place called Monkey Head Point on the Old Buncombe Turnpike.
