North Carolina Federal inlaid chest,

walnut with yellow pine secondary, four dovetailed drawers, inlaid top and skirt, attributed to Anson County, circa 1800, 41-1/2 x 40 x 17-3/4 in., with Anson County land grant for 150 acres granted to John Smith, Jr., late 18th century. Chest with old refinishing, replaced brasses, cracks and minor patches, proper left front foot restored, proper right front facing restored, other feet and skirts original; document on laid paper, tears, folds, separations, edge losses and staining. Provenance: Descended in the Smith-Henry families at Lilesville in Anson County. It was likely among the furnishings of the John Smith, Jr. home built circa 1775. A letter from Elizabeth French Henry Gregory discussing the chest accompanies the lot. The Estate of the Late Elizabeth French Henry Gregory, Charlotte, North Carolina.
