(Charleston, South Carolina, 1838-1921), portrait of "Miss Percy Ferguson, Greenville, Mississippi", signed lower left on rock "WA Walker/1882", oil on canvas, 50 x 30-1/4 in.; 19th century gilt wood and composition frame with palmette decoration. Lined with wax and linen, restretched on old stretcher, minor flaking, retouch on face, nose, point on shoulder, arms, hands, other scattered points, less than 2 percent of surface affected, conservation by the Southeastern Regional Conservation Center, John L. Petty, Conservator; frame resurfaced with traces of original gilding. Provenance: Property of a Charleston Lady.
