American, 1796-1865, portrait of John Allison Roberts (born 1844, Hartford County, Maryland; died 1915, New Jersey), son of James B. and Phoebe Roberts, oil on canvas, 30-1/2 x 25 in.; 19th century painted, stained and gilt wood frame. Lined with wax and linen, crackle, two periods of retouch scattered throughout (percentage undetermined), "Christie's P" stamp on foamcore verso, old conservation label verso for "Hannah Mee Horner, Philadelphia, PA" and for "Joseph Amarotico, Conservator Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts"; frame with abrasions.
