ALS, two letters to General Robert Patterson from Pierre Gustave Touton Beauregard (1818-1893), both boldly signed "GT Beauregard" and addressed to General Patterson in Philadelphia, one dated November 27, 1856, sent from New Orleans, 18 lines asking for "…a few lines of recommendation" to William Walker, President of Nicaragua, 9 x 11 in.; one dated September 11, 1874, sent from Niagara Falls, nine lines declining an invitation to the Aztec Club dinner at the White House, "I have been delayed long in my trip to Canada…please express my regrets…", 7-7/8 x 5 in. Both with folds, toning and fading. Provenance: Descended through the Family of General Robert Patterson, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Beauregard was a Confederate general who successfully defended Charleston and Richmond in 1864.
