Three Early Sheriffs' Documents from Indiana, lot includes one manuscript document and two partially printed documents from Indiana and Kentucky. The manuscript document is from the sheriff of Delaware County, Ind., with circular blindstamp in lower left corner from same giving sworn evidence of a sheriff's sale of land in the county, dated Aug. 23, 1830. This document is written on the reverse of a manuscript letter from the sheriff of Fayette County, Ind., to the sheriff of Delaware County, dated June 15, 1830, requesting payment of a debt owed by the previous owner of the property in Delaware County from the proceeds of the sale of said property. The other two partially printed documents are also sheriffs' documents, both from Fayette County, dated May 16, 1817, and Sept. 24, 1842. The first demanding the surrender of the following property as payment for unnamed offense one two man carriage & one buggy in as good condition as they now are. The second demanding the surrender of three hay stacks supposed to have seven or eight tons in said stacks. Both documents are about 6" x 7". These three documents illustrate the scarcity of cash in these rural Midwestern counties.
