FEODOR ALEXANDROVICH VASILYEV
(Russian 1850-1873) Peasant Home Near a Brook, 1869 Oil on wood panel 8 x 18.75 inches/20.3 x 47.6 centimeters Signed in Cyrillic lower right and dated "1869" Frame: 15.50 x 26 inches NOTE: A Report (in Cyrillic) from Lubov Voluchyn - The Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv detailing stylistic analysis of the painting will accompany the lot. A Report (in Cyrillic) from the National Educational and Research Center of Ukraine, Lviv Chapter detailing chemical analysis of the painting will accompany the lot. Condition reportCONDITION REPORT: Very good to fine condition. Old panel with beveled edges showing hand tooling marks. Approx. 6 inch horizontal partial panel separation at far left near bottom, not all the way through the panel but from the painting surface moving towards the panel verso. Some paint shrinkage showing in areas of the sky. A few thin areas from prior cleaning.
ULTRAVIOLET ANALYSIS: Showing old varnish remnants, no inpaints, signature area looks good.
RECOMMENDATION: The panel separation at the far left needs to be filled and inpainted. A cradle or other verso support would be helpful. The painting is stable but the partial panel separation needs attention. This painting should go to a competent restorer to fix the partial panel separation and clean with new varnish.
FRAME: Heavy black ebony contemporary replacement frame.
