MANABI MALE FIGURE. Possibly a caryatid leg for a table or throne. Standing at attention on a circular base, hands to thighs, head with large triangular nose, slit eyes and mouth set in a slight smile, large headdress with crescent and circle medallion at front, long notched ear flaps almost to shoulders; pourous gray stone. Coastal Manabi, south Manta, Ecuador. Circa A.D. 500 - 1500. 16 x 7 x 7 inches. Collected 1965-1968 by Col. William R. Cameron. Exhibited: "Ecuadoran Artifacts" the Monterey Museum of Art, Monterey, CA, 1977, catalog #27 In very good condition, nose and right arm repaired.
