Jean Francois Theodore Gechter (French 1796-1844) a cast patinated bronze figure group titled 'Aboukir' showing two mounted figures with sword and daggers raised, the two horses over a figure below, signed to the base 53cm wide, 65cm high, 32cm deep NOTE: The Battle of Aboukir may relate to Napoleon's campaign in Egypt, 25th July 1799 where a Turkish Army of some 8,000 men landed at Aboukir during Napoleon Bonaparte aborted march on Acre and overthrew the small French Garrison holding two key strong points. The second battle of Aboukir notes 18,000 men under Britain's Sir Ralph Abbercronby landing to push through the French positions sealing the narrow Isthmus that led to Alexandria. This move however failed on 22nd March 1801
